    (verified owner):

The pen is heavy, simple, and feels quality. There are no markings on it and its raw simplicity is what I probably like most about it. It is heavy (too heavy with the cap on the back) but without the cap feels nice in the hand. My one complaint is that the cap screws on, which is not convenient for quick use. The threads also tend to work loose. Overall I am very pleased with the product and would recommend it.

Pen is hefty, but simplistically elegant. Very well built with good manufacturing tolerances.

I like the weight, solid construction, and great price. I only wish it took a few more types of refills.

Excellent pen, considering the price I paid for it on Kickstarter it was a steal!!! The pen is a bit heavy but it feels incredible good in the hand. For those of you who feel the pen is too heavy, get some weights or better yet, use your heavy pen to strengthen those limp wrists of yours!

I’d personally give this pen a 10/10. I backed it on Kickstarter and got to watch the guys make changes along the way, improving it more and more until it got to this point. The pen feels good in the hand, but the weight might take a bit of getting used to. On the flipside, it feels bulletproof and extremely high quality due to the greater weight. To address the people who say that the back screws out too easily, that can be fixed very easily with either plumber’s teflon tape or some threadlocker glue that can be purchased at any hardware store, anywhere. I don’t even find it to be much of an issue. Love this pen, A++

The pen is way to heavy! It writes well but its too heavy.

The pen is gorgeous to look at and the weight is excellent. I’ve gotten compliments from every person that has used it. Unfortunately, mine was machined unevenly. The cap is at a slightly angle, so it rolls with a gated wobble.

Despite the aesthetics, there are two major design flaws. The end piece unscrews easily. The cap doesn’t have a flattened edge to prevent rolling. These are kind of big deals. Both issues were addressed in iDesign’s later pen design, but they left PHX supporters high and dry. I will consider getting their newer design, but I will definitely wait for the reviews.

It is a great and unique case in its own right.

First of all anyone using standart pens will notice the weight difference between PHX and others. Also the thickness will feel odd at first. But when you get used to these feats, other pens will feel odd… This case (It is not a pen actually, it is a case for pen refills) will be one of your favourite writing instruments, especially when signing documents.

I suggest stuffing a small piece of paper to tighten the back screw, because it is made of solid metal and prone to fall somehow. Once you get it right, it won’t move untill you want it to. Or you can find a permanent solution to it by melting a tiny piece of rubber on the plug.

Great concept but the ink inserts are crap gone through 2 very quickly I suggest using using other brands for next model

Love the pen. I like the feel of the pen, the weight makes it feel very substantial.

As for a previous comment regarding the pen leaving the users finger sore from the cap threads; I don’t have this concern as my natural writing “grip” has my fingers further up the barrel.

I will act on the advice of another reviewer and add some blue “loctite” to the end cap to help keep it in place. Clear finger nail polish will do about the same thing; prevent the end cap from coming loose.

Regardingthe pen balance with/without the cap on the end of the barrel, doesn’t make that much of a difference in my hand. Maybe this is because I have large hands?!

The pen’s “heft” is nice as this pen could almost double as a hammer!! OK, maybe just a small “blackjack” to knock people out with (LOL).

Great job guys! Good luck in your future projects!

The pen is so awesome! I’ve used it to break open the stuck lock on my bag, needless to say, there was not a tiny scratch on the pen. The lock? Split into parts.

I like the pen, although I don’t find myself using it these days due to a couple problems. First and foremost, both the cap and the back unscrew WAY too easily. To the point where they will unscrew in your pocket. There needs to be a gasket or something. This leads into a smaller problem: these things are not great outside. Dirt and sand will get all in because there isn’t much of a seal. Second, I must have a first run of these things because my rear end of the pen isn’t threaded, so I can’t even put it on the back, and this is a shame, although I’ve read here that it destroys the balance and I’d tend to agree from the heft of the cap alone.

I bought this pen to use at work in the Navy, something strong and durable that would be useful in the field, in an office, or at home. Right now, I’d rather just get a clickable Skilcraft than deal with the hassle of this pen.

A few other minor gripes: It’s very hot outside, or in an engine room, and the ink used exploded in my pen. Probably because this thing is made of metal and that heats up easily. Kind of a downer when a Skilcraft will not explode at all. Looking for a better replacement ink. And, finally, the actual pen is uncomfortable to use. When you grip it, you’re grabbing onto some threaded metal which has a gap where the metal of the pen starts. It’s awkward and will leave your fingers sore.

All in all, this was a curious investment from Kickstarter, but I’m very disappointed and will not buy another product from this company. I hope this review helps.

Very unsatisfying product. WAY too heavy in hand, not easy to write with / hold writing position. Does not stand on the endpiece. The part where you can screw on the cap to the end just unscrews when unscrewing the cap. I expected a lot more from this product. Its rubbish.

I love using my PHX pen. It is a great weight and very well balanced, and it is very comfortable to write or draw with. The only down sides are that when using the end that allows you to screw your lid onto the back for safe keeping, the balance is totally ruined. I only used it a couple of times. The screw on end now sits in a draw. Also, the lid and end piece come unscrewed in my bag fairly often. I have to go hunting around for them. Other than that, great product.

This is one of the finest pens I’ve had, thanks in large part to the Hi-Tec-C ink. But odds are you know about the ink, so what about the body?

It’s extremely nice, but not flawless. I’ll explain:
As intended for use it’s great. Super solid, with a nice heft that I like a lot. The stainless steel looks fantastic, and will get marked up a bit in your pocket, as you drop it, etc., giving it a bit of character. This pen will look fantastic in 20 years and really show the journey it’s been on. I consider this a huge plus.
The downside comes from the threaded back. It’s nice, in that I love screwing and unscrewing the pen as a bit of a nervous tic. However, the back comes unscrewed too easily – if the pen is in my back pocket the back will come off. In one case it was lost for 48 hours and I was in a panic. For another, the pen is balanced without the cap on the back. When the cap is put on the balance is off and it’s very back heavy.

These aren’t killer issues, though. Yes, it’s more comfortable to write without the cap on the back, but you can feel free to do that. Or, do what I did and just get used to the weight (it isn’t a big deal.) I also suspect the ink dries a bit, and therefore this pen runs out of ink sooner than other Hi-Tec-Cs, but not only can’t I prove this but I’m still getting more use out of this pen than I ever did a Doctor Grip or similar pen.

$29 is a nice price for a fantastic, though not perfect, pen.

Got mine during their Kickstarter campaign.

This is a substantial, well machined pen. I like the heft of the pen and the fact that I can carry it in my pants/shorts pocket and not worry about it getting scratched up. I also appreciate the fact that I have multiple refill options.

Unbelievably great pen! Love the balance and feel of it. I own a couple from the Kickstarter campaign. Also gave one to my boss who now uses it as his main pen. One tip: if you prefer the threaded cap on the back, use a dab of (blue) Loctite on it.
